Samsung Galaxy S30 series could skip in-display selfie camera
- Samsung has reportedly decided against offering an in-display selfie camera on the Galaxy S30 series.
- It’s believed that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will be the first Samsung device with this tech instead.
We’ve already seen the first couple of phones with an in-display selfie camera launching this year, with the ZTE Axon 20 leading the charge. The technology allows for a proper full-screen display, as the camera is hidden below the screen.
Now, Korean outlet The Elec reports that Samsung has decided against offering an in-display selfie camera on the Galaxy S30 series (aka the Galaxy S21 family). The publication reports that Samsung has suffered from low production yields of the technology.
Instead, the Galaxy S30 phones will reportedly pack a center-mounted punch-hole cutout once again, as we saw with the Galaxy S20 series, Galaxy Note 20 series, and Galaxy Note 10 family. We won’t have to wait too long after the S30 series to see a Samsung device with the tech though.
The Elec reports that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 — scheduled for release in the second half of 2021 — will be the first Samsung phone to be equipped with the technology.
Samsung and ZTE wouldn’t be the only manufacturers offering in-display selfie cameras in 2021, as Xiaomi has already confirmed its intention to mass-produce phones with the tech next year. However, Samsung might have major bragging rights if it’s able to offer an in-display selfie camera on a foldable phone.
