Nacon unveils new smartphone controllers designed for xCloud streaming


In brief: If you’re planning on using Microsoft’s recently launched xCloud service for streaming games to your phone, a handset controller will make life a lot easier. There are plenty to choose from, including an upcoming pair from Nacon that feature both wireless connectivity and official Xbox branding.

Nacon’s new MG-X Series has been specially designed for Android mobile devices and the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which combines the Game Pass, Xbox Gold online gaming, and the xCloud streaming service.

The MG-X Series controllers include adjustable stands that can secure any Android phone up to 6.7 inches, so you’ll be able to squeeze the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra in there—just. And instead of connecting via USB like many similar controllers, these use Bluetooth 4.2. While the company states they’re for Android phones, the wireless functionality means they could work on Apple devices in the future should Microsoft’s web version become a reality.

There are two options available for handheld gamers—the MG-X and the MG-X Pro. The former is a more compact model, while the Pro version (top) has handles and looks like an extended Xbox One controller. You also get up to 20 hours of gaming, thanks to the included rechargeable battery.

Nacon is also launching some traditional console controllers for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and the PC. The company says they are fully customizable and optimized for competitive gaming, featuring “full-featured software for creating profiles, a carry case, stick accessories and additional weights.”

In other xCloud news, it seems users can stream games on a smart fridge by sideloading the Game Pass Ultimate Android app.

No word yet on pricing, but all the controllers will be available early in 2021

That should be the case for all B2B music providers, and we should also report and remunerate based on actual usage, which is only possible in our direct licensing set-up.”

The phone is likely to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC coupled with 8GB of RAM & 128GB of internal storage. The Flipkart listing reveals that the Vivo V20 will sport a triple rear camera system comprising of a 64MP main camera, an 8MP secondary lens & a 2MP monochrome sensor. Upfront, there will be a 44MP shooter for selfies & video calls.

Data firehose: Next generation of streaming technologies goes cloud-native


Real-time streaming data has become a reality for an increasing number of enterprise applications. From the “internet of things” to artificial intelligence, from mobile analytics to a diverse range of big-data challenges, dealing with firehoses of information in real time is rapidly becoming standard fare for enterprise information technology.

Over the years, many technologies have come to the fore to deal with streaming data in various ways. Asynchronous interactions, from traditional message queuing to publish/subscribe to the more modern AsyncAPI standard, have added to the technologists’ toolbelt.

Architectural styles have also kept pace, with the message-oriented, event-driven architecture dating from the 1990s giving way to a revamped, streaming-oriented EDA. Today, the streaming data story is all about massive scale – scale in both dynamic business and technology environments without sacrificing performance, resilience and accuracy.

In other words, streaming data is becoming part of the cloud-native world, since Kubernetes is the only infrastructure technology on the horizon promising the real-time scale that today’s streaming data applications require.

The many paths to cloud-native real-time data streaming

I spoke to 10 vendors with various offerings in the cloud-native streaming marketplace to see how they were approaching this challenging area. I found that many of them had been in the streaming business pre-Kubernetes, and were now leveraging existing technologies and architectural patterns while incorporating them within new cloud-native approaches. Here are some examples.

Cisco Signs up BT for New Service to Speed up Video Streaming | Technology News


STOCKHOLM (Reuters) – Cisco has signed up Britain’s biggest telecoms group BT as its first customer for a new service to speed up internet video traffic through its networks as the coronavirus crisis pushes up demand for video streaming.

The new service, developed with U.S. cloud platform company Qwilt, helps telecom operators to build their own content delivery infrastructure to increase streaming quality, reduce cost, allow more control over content flows and add a revenue source.

Video streaming companies such as Netflix, Alphabet Inc’s YouTube, Disney+ and Amazon’s Prime video service, account for the majority of the internet’s traffic volume, which got a further boost from the pandemic.

And as 5G networks get deployed more widely, including the expected unveiling of Apple’s 5G iPhones next week, data and video traffic would increase more.

“Streaming video may be the killer app for the internet, but it doesn’t have to kill the internet,” said Jonathan Davidson, Senior Vice President at Cisco.

Earlier this year, European Union industry chief Thierry Breton had called on the streaming giants to lower video streaming quality to help to avert internet gridlock.

Media and internet companies usually pay content delivery network groups such as Akamai to speed up content transfer by navigating less congested routes over the Web.

“With streaming video expected to represent north of 80% of traffic flowing through service provider networks in the coming years, content delivery is the first of potentially many services they can deploy from within to monetise their edge footprint in the 5G era,” Davidson said, referring to the telecom operators.
