Companies bring together data and immersive design expertise to create space training simulation tool for U.S. Space Force

Slingshot Aerospace, Inc., a leader in situational awareness technology, announced today that it has received $2 million to develop the Slingshot Orbital Laboratory, an immersive space simulation tool for the Space Force. This includes a $1 million Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase 2 contract from the United States Space Force and an additional $1 million from ATX Venture Partners. The company has partnered with THE THIRD FLOOR, the world’s leading visualization studio helping realize blockbuster films and shows such as Gravity, The Martian and The Mandalorian, to co-create a space visualization solution that is interactive and physics-based.

“Space operators need to understand complicated concepts like astrodynamics, the effects of various items in orbit, and how spacecrafts maneuver among other objects in space—all of which demand more adaptive, interactive, and tailorable educational tools than what we are currently using,” said Col. Slingshot Orbital Laboratory will be an easy-to-use tool that is suitable for current and future space operators, whether the individual has a GED or a PhD. Slingshot Aerospace will create a solution to teach students and seasoned professionals the fundamentals of space domain awareness, including complex astrodynamics. Its purpose is to provide a new, modern, and engaging way to perceive, comprehend, and predict object relations in space and orbital scenarios.

Apple purges rival products from store ahead of rumored AirPods Studio, new HomePod

Apple at the end of September ceased online sales of third-party headphones, earphones, speakers and other devices as the company prepares to debut a slate of new audio products like AirPods Studio and a more affordable HomePod.

Products from major manufacturers including Bose, Logitech, and Sonos disappeared from the online Apple Store late last month, while employees at brick-and-mortar outlets were recently told to remove third-party headphone and speaker items from store shelves, reports Bloomberg.

A quick check reveals no products from Bose or Logitech’s Ultimate Ears brand for sale on Apple’s website. Similarly, searches for “Sonos” deliver Apple alternatives like HomePod and the Beats Pill+ portable speaker.

Prior to the change, Apple was an important reseller for third-party audio device makers that jockeyed for space on Apple Store shelves. A spot in the tech giant’s curated catalog granted access to well-heeled consumers looking for premium iPhone, iPad and Mac accessories.

As noted in the report, Apple sometimes discontinues sale of devices that might compete with new or future products. For example, the company stopped selling Fitbit wearables after the launch of Apple Watch in 2014.

More recently, Masimo’s MightySat fingertip pulse oximeter was cut from the Apple Store lineup just prior to the launch of Apple Watch Series 6. Watch’s tentpole feature for 2020, blood oxygen level tracking, is replicated by the MightSat. Apple is also in a legal fight with the medical technology company over alleged patent infringement claims.

Apple is rumored to release a batch of new audio equipment in the coming months. Sony also showed of its Pulse 3D wireless headset, which it says will be the best way to experience the PS5’s 3D audio capabilities. A few confirmed games to support this feature are Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Demon’s Souls, and Resident Evil Village.

Persia also talks about the surprise announcement and release of two collections from Bethesda. The first collection includes four Wolfenstein games in all: The New Order, The Old Blood, The New Colossus, and Youngblood. The second is The Arkane Collection and includes Prey, Dishonored, and Dishonored 2, along with the standalone Dishonored 2 expansion Death of the Outsider. Bethesda also confirmed to GameSpot that both collections will be playable on next-gen consoles through backwards compatibility.

Lastly, Persia talks about Bloomberg reporting that Blizzard will be closing its offices in Versailles, France. The Versailles office was responsible for marketing, providing customer support, and localizing Blizzard games across Europe.

Apple Stops Selling Headphones and Speakers From Third-Party Companies Ahead of Rumored Smaller HomePod and AirPods Studio Launch

Apple is no longer selling headphones and wireless speakers from companies like Sonos, Bose, and Logitech, as it prepares to launch a new, lower-cost HomePod and AirPods Studio headphones.


According to checks performed by Bloomberg, Apple removed headphones and speakers from Bose, speakers from Logitech’s Ultimate Ears brand, and Sonos speakers from its online Apple Store at the end of September. Searching for these products, which were previously sold online and in retail stores, brings up no results.

Employees at Apple retail locations have also allegedly been asked to pull third-party audio products from shelves over the course of the last few days. Retail stores and the online store continue to offer Beats-branded headphones and speakers alongside Apple’s AirPods and ‌HomePod‌.

Apple has made similar moves in the past, eliminating stock of fitness trackers ahead of the launch Apple Watch. Apple told Bloomberg that it regularly makes changes to the products that it offers as new third-party accessories are released and the needs of customers change.

Rumors indicate Apple is working on several new audio products, including a smaller, lower-cost HomePod and high-end over-ear Apple-branded headphones that could be called “‌AirPods Studio‌,” to be sold alongside the ‌AirPods‌ and AirPods Pro.

Both of these new products are expected to launch before the end of the year, and the removal of the third-party audio products from the online store suggests we could be seeing Apple’s new audio devices soon, perhaps as soon as the iPhone-centric October event that’s rumored to be in the works.

Current rumors indicate that Apple has an event planned for October 13, and if that’s the case, we could see an Apple announcement as soon as tomorrow.
